Moviepie.com’s review of Impermanence of the Ordinary (6 out of 8!)

From the good people at www.moviepie.com! “The delightful short film The Impermanence of the Ordinary (6/8) screened with Spring & Arnaud and deals with one of my favorite subjects: archival photos of Toronto. Photographer Patrick Cummins has spent the past 30 years shooting the city, frequently revisiting locations to capture how they’ve changed as time has gone on. This is the type of stuff that I find fascinating, and I actually think director Dale…

Toronto Star profiles Jadea Kelly’s Wild West Rain video

John Sakamoto of the Toronto Star recently listed our video for Jadea Kelly as one of his 10 Anti-Hit List picks. The video sits in good company alongside Mavis Staples, Daft Punk, and Erykah Badu on Sakamoto’s list. Exerpt: “8. JADEA KELLY “Wild West Rain” Even though her music has more in common with, say, Justin Rutledge (http://bit.ly/17gZuAo) and Whitehorse (http://bit.ly/109RjmA), this Toronto-based singer-songwriter is better known in some quarters for…

Wild West Rain – Jadea Kelly

Back in September we shot our first episode of the Slo/Mo Sessions with The Slocan Ramblers. Episode 1 featured guest artist & Canadian folk songstress Jadea Kelly.  A month later Jadea called and asked if we’d like to shoot the music video for the first single off her upcoming album Clover. As a primarily documentary film-maker, I was a bit hesitant – but Jadea persisted and won me over.  She…

The real cost of television

The most common conversation that I have with potential clients, friends, or non-film/video colleagues is about the true cost of creating professional content.  Especially in the sphere of television or film, where budgets for a single episode can vary wildly from $10,000 to well over $1 million. The Screen Wipe guide to TV from the BBC explains fully, brilliantly, and hilariously exactly how much television costs. A must watch for…

SLO/MO Sessions EP1: Jadea Kelly

I’ve long since loved bluegrass music.  As Steve Martin points out, you just can’t be sad when there’s a banjo playing. Here in Toronto, we’re fortunate to host one of Canada’s finest contributions to bluegrass scene, The Slocan Ramblers.  All highly in-demand musicians in their own right, the members of the Slocans combine their forces to create wonderfully moving bluegrass. When I got an email from Chris Doble at Mojito…

Canadian Cycling Magazine & Specialized bike video

Back in September, my good friend Deen Karim called me up and asked me to help shoot a video for Canadian Cycling Magazine and Specialized bikes.  Evan McNeely, one of Specialized’s hot shot cycle-cross athletes would be flying into Toronto to try his 2013 bike.  This is a peak at the Specialized Crux Pro Carbon – one hot piece of carbon, and will certainly help Evan continue his winning streak into the 2013…
